NEW VOICES: PLAYWRITING IN THE SCHOOLS
Sponsored by The Norton
Foundation
New
Voices is a classroom residency for middle and high school students
aimed at teaching the basics of playwriting. Students work with teaching
artists for 7-10 sessions to create original 10-minute plays with an
emphasis on writing rather than production. Finished pieces are often used in student portfolios.
These original works focus
on a wide array of subjects affecting teens, including bullying, body
image and substance abuse, and often reflect their own experiences. New
Voices serves hundreds of students annually, and has given rise to the
Actors Theatre New Voices Ten-Minute Play Contest.
Fee: $1000 (aid available)

MONOLOGUE v. DIALOGUE
Designed for middle schools, this classroom residency is aligned with Kentucky standards. Students work with

short scenes. Finished pieces are often used in student portfolios.
Fee: 10 sessions, $1,000
5 sessions, $500 (contact us for funding opportunities)
PRE-SHOW WORKSHOP
Actors Theatre will send a professional teaching artist to your classroom
for a one-hour workshop that prepares students for the student matinee
performance. The workshop gives insight into the historical and social
climate, interactively explores the themes, and connects a contemporary
young audience to the play.
Offered free as part of the Student Matinee Series package
Actors Education will contact teachers to setup workshop dates
and times best for their class after they reserve tickets for
a student matinee. Student
