A pearl is the traditional symbol of a 30th anniversary, and aptly so for this celebration of the birth of the Humana Festival of New American Plays in 1976.

The Latin word for pearl means "unique," no two pearls being identical. Actors Theatre of Louisville’s Humana Festival of New American Plays is unique in the world of the theatre, offering the opportunity for new and original voices to be heard. And no two Humana Festivals have been alike, each one testing the boundaries of theatre in different ways to reveal the wonders of the stage and the power of live drama.

We congratulate Actors Theatre of Louisville and its artistic director, Marc Masterson, and salute the playwrights, actors, directors and audiences participating in this milestone year of the award-winning Humana Festival.

We also honor Jon Jory and his colleagues who created this grand theatrical adventure thirty years ago, and Humana’s co-founders, David A. Jones and Wendell Cherry, who nurtured their vision over the years.

The Humana Foundation is a proud sponsor as the curtain rises on the unique and exciting 2006 Humana Festival of New American Plays!
